To all citizens of Gwinnett:

Our citizens expect safety, and they deserve a Sheriff who will spend their hard-earned tax dollars responsibly in achieving that goal. Tax dollars should be budgeted for personnel and programs that best serve Gwinnett. They should not be wasted on a bloated command structure, bodyguards, and a full-time driver for the sheriff or painting the sheriff’s name on hundreds of vehicles operated by his deputies. During many of my tours I was responsible for multimillion dollar budgets and the management and staffing of the entire Navy’s 388,000 active and reserve personnel. I will be a faithful steward of the taxpayers’ money.

When I am in charge, the citizens and families of Gwinnett, the deputies, and the jailers can rest assured that the Sheriff’s Office will be your safeguard. I will rebuild what has been lost over the last three years. We will paint our county with successes rather than our cars with egotistical logos.

To the deputies and jailers: You deserve to have the tools and support required to do your jobs and return home safely. Your families should not live in constant fear that you will be harmed due to dangerous conditions in the jail that are a direct result of the sheriff’s failed policies. It is a disgrace that you are made to serve mandatory overtime and then are set up for failure by being given responsibility for two or three cell blocks, when only one should be assigned. Instead of living a life of fear and exhaustion, you deserve both verbal and monetary recognition for a job well done! I have a proven track record of training, equipping, and mentoring those for whom I am responsible. People, performance, and morale are of the upmost importance to me. I will listen to and appreciate ideas and will turn those ideas into policies to create a better future for Gwinnett.

Leadership is inclusive. Good leaders never rule by fear or intimidation. All those who are currently suffering in the Sheriff’s Office, please know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. For those who have been forced out or walked away due to a hostile work environment, I will be reaching out to you in hopes that you will return. I value your experience and dedication–and you all deserve better.

To the inmates and their families, you should not have to fear injury or death when entering Gwinnett’s jail system. You should feel safeguarded. The huge loss of experienced jailers is the direct result of poor leadership, and it has put everyone in our entire system at risk. Just three years ago, the Gwinnett Sheriff’s Office was 600 strong. However, hundreds of deputies and jailers have fled since our current sheriff took over. I know that our jailers and deputies want to safeguard and rehabilitate our inmates. However, the current sheriff is mandating overtime on an already overextended force. The current deputies and jailers are further being demoralized by policies that are not in their best interest and which put them at risk. Those who have served and who would like to serve will not and cannot continue to work under these disgraceful conditions. New recruits know not to apply even when offered signing bonuses. That will change when I am sworn in.

During my command tour, my unit was awarded the Battle Effectiveness Award (Battle “E”) for three consecutive years. Earning it three years in a row is almost unheard of. The Battle “E” is awarded to the #1 ranked unit of its kind in the Navy. The Battle “E” can only be earned when a unit is highly trained, highly motivated, and executing with precision! I love building winning teams…as a matter of fact, that’s what I do best!

Sheriff Kebo Taylor inherited an award-winning organization which he has systematically destroyed over the past three years. The right leader can turn that around overnight.  We WILL REBUILD IT! You have my word.

You Can Count On Me,

Baron Reinhold
